  • When the Department was founded, the teaching staff consisted only of a professor and an assistant. 
  • At present there are 9 teaching positions: two professors, three lecturers, senior assistant, assistant and two full-time teachers. There are also a number of research staff on fixed-term contracts.
  • Also a large number of Statistics part-time teachers have worked in the Department. These include Tomi Seppälä, Anna-Maija Koivisto,Ismo Lapinleimu, Henri Toukomaa, Merja Jauhiainen, Markopekka Niinimäki, Joni Lehtinen, Matti Ylén, Jari Parviainen, Pirjo Palmroos, Inka Martti, Lasse Koskinen, Hannu Oja, Jani-Pekka Virtanen, Minna Åhman and Erkki Mäkelä.

    Outi Hiironniemi is a student of Statistics (major) and Mathematics. During the academic year 1996–1997 she acted as a part-time teacher of Statistics at Kuru College of Forestry and in the autumn of 1996 as a part-time teacher of Mathematics at the Tampere University of Technology. At the University of Tampere she was a part-time teacher during the academic year 1996–1997 and an acting full-time teacher in 1997–1998. In the autumn 1998 she worked at Tampere University as an acting lecturer of Statistics and in the spring 1999 she will be an acting full-time teacher.

    Research interests:

    • learning and teaching of statistics
    • quality of teaching.
